MaRS Publishes VitalHub LTC mHealth Case Study, Featuring the Results of the Trinity Village Implementation
TORONTO, April 19, 2018 – MaRS Discovery District, the world’s largest urban innovation hub has published a case study describing the success of Trinity Village Care Centre’s implementation of the VitalHub Long Term Care (“VH LTC”) Mobile health (“mHealth”) application.
VH LTC was developed through a collaborative innovation partnership (“procurement by co-design”) developed by MaRS and supported by the Minister of Government and Consumer Services to enable healthcare organizations and technology innovators to work together to develop, test and evaluate solutions in support of addressing key challenges in the healthcare sector and to support commercialization of solutions that improve patient outcomes.
Trinity Village partnered with VitalHub in response to the procurement by co-design initiative to develop the VH LTC application, leveraging the suite of mHealth solutions in the VitalHub portfolio. VH LTC is an mHealth solution for enabling Long Term Care organizations to improve coding accuracy, save time and costs, enhance interdisciplinary communication, improve workload planning, provide detailed analytics, improve coordination and improve staff workflow.
MaRS authored a post-mortem case study analyzing the result of the project and the outcomes achieved. Empirical benefits observed within the study include savings of time, money, and improved quality of care organization-wide. As outlined in the case study, the solution is “an exemplary case of what is possible when a healthcare provider and vendor share an interest in solving a complex problem and a commitment to innovation.”
The case study was authored by Jamie Gamble, of Imprint Consulting Inc. an affiliate of MaRS Solution Labs. In this study, Gamble observed better use of time and better data accuracy, leading to cost efficiencies and improved care. In a time-savings study conducted during the six-week implementation testing of the solution, frontline staff saved an average of 23 minutes per shift and house managers (registered practical nurses) saved an average of 1.5 hours per shift. The implementation testing also demonstrated fewer errors in recording and reporting data. Data quality and accuracy improved by 30% during testing.
