CHAIR
Deborah Orida is a Senior Portfolio Manager at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, where she focuses on providing transformational capital to leading Canadian and international public companies. Before this, she was a Vice President in investment banking at Goldman Sachs & Co. in New York. During her nine years at Goldman Sachs, Ms. Orida advised companies and private equity firms on numerous mergers and acquisitions and financing transactions. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Ms. Orida was a securities lawyer at Blake, Cassels & Graydon in Toronto where she focused on technology companies and financial sponsors.
Ms. Orida holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees from Queen’s University, and a Masters in Business Administration from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. She joined the Bridgepoint Health Foundation Board of Directors in 2010.
Henry Chow is one of the largest dealers for Rogers Communications in Canada. His interest in health care began in his early years, when he worked as a paramedic. He was a Board member for the Scarborough Hospital from 2001 to 2006, and he continues to serve in a leadership role for many charitable activities.
Mr. Chow’s experience in business, previous work in health care and current expertise in technology makes him a perfect fit for the VitalHub Project Team, with his sincere interest in improving patient care through innovation and technology.
Raphael Hofstein is President & CEO of MaRS Innovation. From 1999 to June 2009, Dr. Hofstein held the position of President and CEO of Hadasit Ltd., the technology transfer company of the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Dr. Hofstein serves as Chair of Hadasit BioHolding Ltd., a publicly traded company on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) since 2005.
Dr. Hofstein received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Life Sciences and Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel; and his B.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He completed postdoctoral training and research at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, in the Departments of Biological Chemistry and Neurobiology.
Joan Sproul is the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President, Finance for Mount Sinai Hospital. Her responsibilities include the fiscal planning and management of Mount Sinai’s $400 million annual budget; development of commercial opportunities and alternative revenues; and executive liaison for a variety of key board committees. Prior to joining Mount Sinai Hospital, she was the Director of Fiscal Advisory at the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. She also held senior financial positions in the hotel industry. Ms. Sproul is a Chartered Accountant and graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce.
Stephen M. Pustil is Chairman of Peerage Capital, Chairman of Artemis Investment Management Inc. and Chairman of the Board and President of Peerage Realty Partners Inc. Mr. Pustil is also Vice Chairman of MDC Partners Inc., and serves as President of Penwest Development Corporation Limited, a leading real estate development and construction firm he established in 1972. Mr. Pustil is a chartered accountant.
